When Northrop Grumman was seeking a coatings solution for their Advanced Technology Transit Bus (ATTB) project, they came to Applied Surfaces, Inc. for assistance.

After four years of research and development, Northrop Grumman, the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and the Federal Transit Administration have introduced the first prototype of the ATTB or "Stealth Bus."

Technologically designed to achieve a longer service life and lower operating costs, the Stealth bus uses light-weight, aerospace-type materials and construction techniques and defense conversion technologies in a completely new transit bus. This 40-foot bus is designed to meet federal, state, and local axle weight and clean air requirements and to meet or exceed the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.

So it was natural for them to come to Applied Surfaces for a state-of-the-art alternative to traditional bus floor coverings. Our solution allowed Northrop to simultaneously improve safety, durability, and over-all system weight, a coatings solution to match their objectives for state-of-the-art public transportation.
